Free photo editing softwares and they are legal too!

I have never been a photoshop fan. The overweight photo software is not only sluggish to run, but the interface is also a struggle to master. Therefore, when it comes to basic photo editing I have always loved the humble Windows Paint.

But as digital camera and storage cards gets bigger and bigger, it also poses a challenge for camera owners to manage and tweak their pictures. There are programs out there that would help you with this problem, but my personal favorite so far is Picasa 2, developed by Google. Picasa is very light and has all the necessary feature that all photographer must have. It allows you to edit, rename and crop vast amount of pictures in a very short time. Roughly you will need 1 to 2 hours to master all the basic controls of the program.

Should you be a fan of Photoshop but finds the software too expensive these days, you might want to consider GIMP 2.4. The software was build using open source and is expected to give photoshop a run for its money. If you don't know it by now, Open Source is a project that allows nettizen to develop and distribute software through the net using non-proprietary tools and programming codes.

If you would like to try these software, they are available for downloads here:
  1. Picasa2
  2. Gimp 2.4.5
